This is great, simply brilliant.

I made these as muffins (375 for about 25 min) and they turned out great - fun to try with different condiments!

Where's the oatmeal-apple bread waffles you promised for this post?

These sound yummy! A question though, have you tried brushing oil instead of butter on both sides of the iron? I have a rustic waffle cast iron set up as well, with the ball joint so you flip the iron over after pouring batter onto the hotter side. Oil works great for me. I will have to see if I can create these now!

I use wood chopsticks or bamboo skewers to remove things from the waffle iron. Your iron will not scratch that way.
